SAFETY TIPS

Cleaning windows and hanging out the laundry need not be life-threatening activities.

In The Kitchen

Kitchens are full of hidden hazards. Carelessness could bring sickness, injuries or even tragedy for yourself and your employer’s family.

Remember: You can never be too careful in the kitchen! The following are some key safety rules to be observed at all times:

Never let children play in the kitchen.

Never allow knives to lay around. They could cause injuries to yourself or an      unsuspecting person. Always return knives to a safe keeping place, such as a drawer,     and replace knives in their sheaths whenever possible.

Never leave the house when cooking.  Check all fires are extinguished before      leaving the house or leaving the kitchen for any length of time.

If your stove is a kerosene type (which is rare in modern Singapore households.

Most households now use either centrally supplied gas or canistered liquified    Petroleum Gas - LPG) never refill kerosene when stove is lit.

Store LPG tanks and any type of inflammable fuel of chemical at dry, well ventilated and cool place outside the reach of children.

Take extreme care with hot utensils and heated oil or fat. Use with care ingredients   containing alcohol while cooking: they could burst into flame if overheated.

Keep floor dry. Wet floor could be slippery.

Keep kitchen adequately ventilated. Always turn on ventilation fans or open window    when cooking. This would reduce the risk of gas-related accidents and prevent oily    fumes from staining the living room.

Store matches in safe places.
